The Australian Bookplate Society aims to promote the
creation and the collection of Bookplates throughout Australia.
To achieve this, the Society has created a forum for artists, collectors, would-be collectors and students to come together either through correspondence, the occasional Newsletter, exchange lists, the Internet or at meetings where a range of Bookplate related issues will be discussed. Central to the success of any Bookplate movement are the artists and designers who create such designs. The Society does not judge the quality of work of any one artist and prefers the membership to make their own decisions as to which artists are preferred to design a particular Bookplate. Similarly, the Bookplate Society accepts the notion that Bookplates may be designed in any medium that allows for multiple reproduction of the design. The Bookplate Society will encourage artists to create Bookplate designs through:
Free membership of The Australian Bookplate Society is offered to all Australian artists and designers active in the creation of Bookplates. Membership of the F.I.S.A.E. gives the Bookplate Society entré to some forty-four national Bookplate societies world wide. Through ‘The Society’newsletters and/or Email, each member will be informed of Australian and International Bookplate activities and news, including each forthcoming International Congress.
PublicationsThe Australian Bookplate Society will issue a range of publications similar to those published by its predecessor The Ex Libris Society of Australia (1922 - 1942). The Bookplate Society will also encourage publication of Bookplate books and articles about Bookplates in Australia. The Society publications will include:
